European Cycling Tours offer a unique opportunity for a once in a lifetime cycling experience through this mystical land of North Africa to one of the great natural wonders of the world. This five day cycling adventure will transport you back to a land and culture unspoiled and untouched of modernity, you will go on your own spellbinding adventure of discovery of this extraordinary land on two wheels from the bustling bazaars of Marrakesh, over the the ancient Atlas mountains, through desert towns of Merzouga and Ouarzazate (Hollywood’s destination of choice when it comes to filming desert epics) to the towering dunes of the mighty Sahara… there is no other bike ride quite like it anywhere in the world!

Itinerary
Day One – Arrive Marrakesh airport – transfer to hotel. Times of recommended flights given at time of application. Build bikes before evening meal and early night.
Day Two – Marrakesh to Ouarzazate – Transfer to Taddart (Atlas mountains) before cycling 105km +1,100m
Day Three – Ouarzazate to Ait Ibriren (Dades Gorge) – 80km +1,000m
Day Four – Ait Ibriren to Tloute – 125km +200m
Day Five – Tloute to Erfoud – 125km +135m
Day Six – Erfoud to Sahara Desert (Erg Chebbi)… dune camel ride and spectacular desert sunset before evening dinner – 60km +140m
Day Seven – Pack down bikes before transfer return and evening dinner in Marrakesh
Day Eight – Easy day enjoying the sights, sounds and rich heritage of Marrakesh, including of course the myriad of cafes and labyrinth of souks before evening flight home – optional extra night on application.

Logistics
Recommended flight information will be given on your application.To help us help you, It is important you notify us of any extraordinary travel arrangements you may have that prevents you from arriving at the recommended times.
Your personal bags will be carried by the support vehicle throughout the event.
We strongly ask your bikes to be transported by bike bags (semi-rigid/soft). Please do not arrive to the event with rigid bike travel boxes. Support vehicles will have limited space and unable stow large solid bike boxes as well as all luggage and equipment through the event.

Weather & Kit
We can expect warm, sunny weather, however we should expect slight temperature drop and cool conditions on the mountains and in the evenings – Remember to bring layers – not heavy coverings.
This is principally a road tour, however, the road surfaces through Morocco are unpredictable, there will be rough roads and in places we can expect little or no asphalt surface (road to final hotel destination in desert). You should equip yourself with a road hybrid bike with wide good quality ‘touring tyres’. Your bike should be well maintained and in good running order with suitable ‘road gears’ and brakes. Mountain Bikes are suitable if equipped with suitable road touring tyres – gearing may also need to be addressed. if you have any doubt regarding your bike set-up, please contact to discuss. Please note, high-tech, lightweight sport road bikes are NOT suitable for this cycling adventure to the Sahara Desert. Bike Hire available POA.

Fitness & Training
This is a level 3 cycle event. You will be capable of riding comfortably upto 120km in a day (8hrs) and/or used to riding distances upto 80km over hilly terrain – minimum. If you have any doubt as to your fitness regarding participation in this event please give us a cal and we will be more than happy to chat with you.
Please arrive to the event ready to ride and not rely on ‘muscle memory’ or riding into ‘trip fitness’ – don’t let us or yourself down…please train to ride.
