Experience Majorca Cycling Holiday 2026
1. Why is Majorca considered the “Cycling Capital of Europe”?
Majorca earns its reputation due to a perfect “cycling ecosystem”: glass-smooth tarmac, a driver-aware culture, and the dramatic Serra de Tramuntana (a UNESCO World Heritage site). For UK cyclists, it offers a predictable climate and varied terrain that ranges from flat coastal lanes to iconic “category 1” climbs. The infrastructure is specifically built for athletes, with bike-friendly hotels and professional mechanical support available across the island.
2. What are the must-ride climbs on a Majorca cycling holiday?
No cycling trip to Majorca is complete without tackling Sa Calobra (Coll dels Reis), famous for its 270-degree “tie knot” bridge and 26 hairpins. Other essential routes include the scenic ride to the Cap de Formentor lighthouse, the steady ascent of Puig Major (the island’s highest point accessible by bike), and the scenic Coll de Sóller.
3. When is the best time of year to cycle in Majorca?
The optimal windows for cycling are Spring (March to May) and Autumn (September to October). During these months, temperatures typically sit between 18°C and 25°C—ideal for long days in the saddle. Most UK riders avoid July and August due to the intense Mediterranean heat and increased tourist traffic, while the winter months (November to February) are excellent for “base mile” training, though mountain descents can be chilly.
4. Should I bring my own bike from the UK or hire one in Majorca?
This is a common dilemma for UK business owners and enthusiasts. While bringing your own bike offers familiarity, Majorca has some of the world’s best high-spec carbon bike hire centres (offering brands like Pinarello, Specialized, and Canyon).
Hiring: Saves you the stress of bike boxes, airline fees, and potential transit damage.
Bringing your own: Ideal for those with specific custom fits or electronic shifting setups they prefer not to deviate from. European Cycling Tours can assist with recommendations for the best hire partners in Puerto Pollensa or Alcudia.
5. What level of fitness is required for a Majorca cycling tour?
Our Majorca tours are designed to be inclusive but rewarding. We typically categorise the island as a 3/5 difficulty level. While the mountain stages require a good base level of fitness and climbing experience, the presence of our Support and Assistance Driver (SAD) means you can opt-out of specific sections if your legs are tired. If you can comfortably ride 40–50 miles in the UK’s rolling hills, you will thrive on our Majorca itinerary.
6. Where is the best base for a cycling holiday in Majorca?
We highly recommend the Northern region, specifically Puerto Pollensa or Alcudia. These locations provide immediate access to the Tramuntana mountains while also offering flat routes towards the centre of the island (the “Pla”). This geographic versatility allows us to plan varied itineraries that don’t require long “transfer miles” through heavy traffic to reach the best scenery.
7. Is Majorca safe for solo cyclists and groups?
Majorca is exceptionally safe for cyclists. Local legislation requires motorists to give a minimum of 1.5 metres when overtaking, and the high volume of cyclists means drivers are very “bike-aware.” However, riding in a guided group with European Cycling Tours adds an extra layer of safety; our leaders manage pace and navigation, while our support vehicle provides a visible barrier and immediate mechanical or medical assistance if required.
8. What should I pack for a week of cycling in the Tramuntana?
In addition to your standard kit, we recommend:
Compact Gearing: Ensure your bike has a 34-tooth small ring and at least a 30T or 32T cassette for the steeper mountain gradients.
Lightweight Gilet: For the long descents where wind chill can be high, even in the sun.
Sun Protection: The Mediterranean sun is significantly stronger than in the UK; high-SPF sweat-resistant cream is essential.
Hydration Tabs: Essential for replacing electrolytes lost during the long climbs.
7. Is this tour right for me?
This tour is ideal for cyclists looking for a fully guided experience where route planning, daily logistics, and on-road support are handled for you. Riders should be comfortable with regular cycling, but expert guidance and vehicle support are provided throughout. If you’re deciding whether a guided or self-guided cycling holiday suits you best, this guide explains the key differences in detail.

Why going to Majorca is a great way to discover your perfect spring!
There’s a specific moment each year when the indoor trainer starts to feel like a cage and the grey drizzle of a British spring finally wears thin.
If you’re craving that first real breath of freedom, Majorca in April is a total sensory recalibration. Imagine trading damp lanes for “velvet” tarmac and gentle 20°C sunshine that lets you finally leave the heavy overshoes behind.
Spring transforms the island into a vibrant emerald paradise; the crystalline light makes the limestone peaks of the Tramuntana glow against a deep navy Mediterranean. Whether you crave the drama of legendary mountain climbs like Sa Calobra or the quiet, stone-walled lanes of the interior scented with orange blossoms and wild fennel, the roads are yours. It’s a place for lingering café stops, local almond cake, and finding your own cadence on blissfully quiet roads before the summer crowds arrive.
