The Picos de Europa mountain range in northern Spain is a little visited cycling paradise.
Situated in the Asturias and Cantabria regions in the north of Spain, the Picos de Europa National Park was declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2003, a status which reflects both the natural beauty and diverse wildlife of the region.
This will be your base for the solar eclipse event 2026!

While in the Picos, you will have five days cycling bliss, exploring the best of all it’s diversity from reaching high up into the peaks to a ride down visiting the stunning coastline.
In addition, the Picos de Europa has a low traffic density. Aside from the few main through roads linking the villages, you will be on many roads where you will encounter just a handful of cars each day… cycling bliss!

Itinerary
Arrival Day > Sunday, 9 August – You are recommended to arrive to the event by Santander Airport [SDR]. From here you will be collected and transported to your accommodation where you will ‘meet ‘n’ greet’ your ECT team before the event briefing and welcome dinner.
Day 1 to 5 > Five days of epic cycling in the Picos de Europa National Park
Wednesday, 12 August – Total Eclipse Day! …After a fine days cycling, sit back by the pool equipped with your eclipse sunnies and long glass of Sangria to witness one of the solar system’s biggest events! 😎🍹🌘
Return Day > Saturday, 15 August – Transfer to Asturias Airport for your onward return journey home.

Kit & Climate
This is a road bike cycling holiday.
Your bike should be well maintained and in good running order with suitable ‘road gears’ and brakes for big hills.
A full kit list will be issued in your ‘Joining Instructions’ document after your application.
August in Asturias you can expect warm sunshine but not too hot due to the Atlantic maritime influence.

Fitness To Ride The Picos
This is a level 3 cycle event.
When you arrive, you should be capable of riding comfortably upto 120km in a day and/or used to riding distances upto 100km over hilly terrain. You should have ideally also completed a previous multi-day cycle tour, however not essential.
Hill gradients in the Asturias commonly touch into double figures so good leg strength will be desirable!
